denial

The geese are beginning their manoeuvers -
my sunflowers are really showing their stuff
the spiders are working overtime on their webs
and other nasty things...
and the crops are almost all off -
except for the soybeans and the corn.
School starts tomorrow.
Fall is in the air.
We are in denial...

project #1 completed!

There are still a few things that have been left
hanging for the last 4 years.
Yes.
It's already 4 years since we moved back to Canada
and built our house.
This sidewalk/path project had us stumped for a long time.
We just didn't know what we wanted to do with it.
We'd thought we would continue the lower deck into a sidewalk
 but with different materials.
Then when we were in Alberta at my mom's I saw her
stone path and thought, that's it.
We'll keep it simple
AND
cheaper!
We cancelled our order at the lumber yard
and bought a few more bricks to add to what
we had left over from the porch project.
 Ready for the finishing touches.

The crushed rock arrived yesterday.
There is WAY too much
but now we have enough to finally put the edge
around the garden :)
and Howard already filled the window wells
to the level they should be at.
Gotta look on the positive side! :)
First wheelbarrow load.
 Voila!
We have a path.

it never hurts to ask

A few months ago I bought myself a new Wilton angel food cake pan.
I was actually quite nervous about using it because
when I baked a cake in my teflon pan in Germany
the cake would come out beautifully
but once inverted, it would fall right out of the pan.
Not a good way to have a nice fluffy cake!
Anyway, it was time to bake the August birthday cake
and I thought I would inaugurate my new pan.
After about 20 minutes in the oven
I started to smell something very uncake-like.
There was batter dripping out of the bottom of the pan
 and baking onto the oven.
Great.
I finished baking the cake, took it out, inverted it
and.....
it didn't fall out.
It was absolutely perfect.
And it was probably the best poppyseed chiffon cake I have ever baked.
And that's saying a lot!
Oh ya.
Anyway, I started thinking about that leaky pan...
I thought I would write to Wilton and see what they would say.
So, I did and today the email came back
saying they were sorry about my leaky pan and would I please send them my
shipping address so they could replace the pan for me!
Yes, once again,
it never hurts to ask!!

he's still the best

In the middle of our massive garage project
I took time out to attend a music workshop yesterday
and Howard took time out to pick these flowers
from our garden for me
and had them on the table when I got home.
He is still the sweetest husband to me.

harvest has begun

Howard was just saying on Tuesday that harvest could be starting
in the next few weeks.
Two days later
we saw 4 combines taking off the first crop in this area.
The weather has been hot and super dry.
Perfect weather to ripen up the crops
and then for harvest to begin.

visiting my mom

We had a great time visiting my mom in Peace River
a few weeks ago.
My mom's dog, Penny, keeps things rather interesting... :)
She acts like she doesn't want to have her picture taken
but she was in every picture my mom took of us!
Crazy dog.
