staufen in "stages"

Last weekend we enjoyed an afternoon in a town not far from us. Each year Staufen puts on an event called "Stages" which depicts the history of the town from its founding in 1144. The townspeople get in on the act with their amazing costumes and people come from far and wide to enjoy this great event...
My favourite picture of the day was sent to me by brave knight Killian's parents. I have to admit he's pretty convincing!

katy's day out

Katy enjoyed our town (which we also love very much) with a friend on Sunday afternoon and came home with some great pictures that she is allowing me to post.
In this picture you can see a flying bug on the left. It is called a Hummingbird Moth and they show up now and then when the weather gets really warm. I guess the weather has been warm enough to have them around because we've seen a few of them lately.
Just enjoying our town.....

wandering in basel

We love Basel. I think it's our favourite city.

This is the store that belongs to Basel's "Father Christmas", Johann Wanner. Note the description of the store: "Christmas/tree/ornaments/decor/store - one word in German!

strohfest teil 3

On the way home from the "strohfest" last Friday (sorry this has taken so long to post...) we stopped in the beautiful village of St. Blasien for lunch and to see, of course, the church. This church has the 3rd largest dome in Europe...
...and it is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking.
Erna told me that the first time she came to this church it was brown inside.
Years ago it was decided that the church needed renovations and the new white interior caused a huge uproar!
I cannot imagine people being upset with the changes that were made....
...especially when they look like this!
This was my third visit to this church and I hope it won't be my last.

It is glorious and holy.
