basel and beyond...

On Mother's Day we took three girls to the airport in Basel. They were heading to London for a long-awaited trip with their cousin and to meet up with another cousin. They were very excited.
Hours later we discovered that they were still at the airport as their flight had been cancelled due to the volcanic ash problem. They had tried calling several times but our phones were not connecting to each other that day. They waited a total of 6 hours in the airport......
...while Howard and I strolled through Basel. We love Basel.

We actually sat in the cathedral for about 1/2 an hour while the organist giving the concert that evening was practicing. It was marvelous!
We dashed home to get ready for our farewell tea and it was then that we were given the message that the girls hadn't gotten off the ground, not to mention out of the airport! Oh dear.

yay rachel!

Well, she did it. It was simple. I was doing the right thing except for the part where I kept replacing the background I was deleting instead of simply deleting it. I am so relieved!

can you tell i'm struggling?

For some reason I cannot get myself out of this "cutest blog on the block" thing that I decided to try out. You have likely noticed that I've changed my background several times in the last few weeks. That is because I cannot find a new background that I like so I keep trying new ones just to replace them to try another one.... I need to contact my friend Rachel to see if she can give me a tip on how to lose this "cute" thing that is annoying me!

grapevines, dandelions and cherry trees

Every fall all the grapevines are cut right back and only one branch is left to then grow again in the Spring and produce the grapes for the new season. When all the energy of the stalk is put into only one branch, excellent fruit can be produced.

Dandelions have been rampant this year. We have never seen so many fields of dandelions as we have this year. Of course now they look like this and are reproducing further in mass amounts!

A very lush cherry orchard. The trees are full to overflowing this year. It is going to be quite a harvest in a few weeks.

way behind

On the first Sunday in May (almost 2 weeks ago already) the town band came by our house to awaken us all like they do every year. However, this year it was after 9:00 by the time they got to our house. It's a good thing we weren't counting on them to wake us up like they usually do.
It was still great to see them, especially the red-head playing the trumpet. He's the son of my Brazilian friend, Ingrid. He smiled up at me as they rounded the corner and came by our house. It was cute.

junior/senior banquet

Katy's final BFA banquet was last Friday evening. She had a marvelous time with all her wonderful friends.

Katy and Mallory have been special friends since grade 3. For this school that is a really, really long time.
Her great friend, Josh, was her date for the evening. They made quite the striking (and matching!) couple!
