howard's trip to africa

Howard visited several countries on a trip he made
at the beginning of April.
One of them was the poorest country in the world.
Some of our people are working in a school there -
a school that was recently flooded.
They are now using two separate facilities for teaching classes
while they wait for the
repairs to be completed on the school building.
Howard was able to "borrow" pictures of the people
and life there.
Our workers there were thrilled that Howard had come to visit them.
They all need our prayers for many things,
including the 40C+ heat which is
relentless.
But they are making
the most of their new African life
and are making a wonderful contribution.

my favourite one yet

A shy little boy in grade 4
handed me this folded up picture today
and quickly walked away.
I smiled.

what a find

We were wandering through Winners last night.
I glanced over to one of the shelves and saw these
plant pots.
I knew immediately
 they were Polish pottery.
The colour and patterns are unmistakable.
The prices, however, were better than anything I
would have found in Poland.
I was shocked - and pleased.
What a find!

original music

 Besides teaching piano
Bethany has been extremely busy
writing music for a new piano CD.
She printed this piece out last week and I grabbed a copy
so I could show it to my students at school.
They were impressed.
As are we.
She is a very gifted young woman.

the guest book

A friend of Katy's got married yesterday.
She asked Katy to make her a guestbook.
Somehow, in the midst of her crazy, busy life
she managed to create this work of art.
It's something to be treasured....

the slow melt

Apparently we are experiencing the perfect flood prevention weather.
The days are bright and sunny but the nights continue to be cold.
And the snow just keeps hanging around.
Although if one looks carefully, you can almost see that it is
shrinking.
There are those who don't mind the snow.
Not sure what these guys think about it.
And according to my mom
the syrup should be perfect this year.
Warmish days - cold nights.
The only thing is.....
This town gets its maple syrup from Quebec.
The tapping of the trees is just a show.
Too bad.
